Scripture: Psalm 46:10
“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
This sermon reminds us that in a loud and chaotic world, God calls His people into stillness, trust, and deep confidence in Him.
1. BE STILL — CEASE STRIVING
Key Idea: “Be still” (Hebrew raphah) means:
• Stop fighting
• Loosen your grip
• Stop trying to control outcomes
• Rest in God’s strength
Why God calls us to be still
• We carry burdens He never asked us to carry
• Stillness redirects our focus from the problem to His presence
• God works most powerfully when we stop striving
What God’s people can do
• Practice daily silence before God
• Release control through surrendering prayer
• Stop rehearsing the problem—shift your mind to God
2. AND KNOW — GROW IN REVELATION
Biblical “knowing” God means:
• Experiencing Him
• Trusting Him
• Recognising His voice
• Becoming aware of His presence
We grow in knowing God through:
• His Word
• His works
• His character
• His faithfulness
• His Spirit speaking to our hearts
What God’s people can do
• Meditate slowly on Scripture
• Record moments of God’s faithfulness
• Invite the Holy Spirit to reveal more of God
3. THAT I AM GOD — REMEMBER WHO HE IS
When life shakes us, we forget God’s identity.
He is:
• Almighty
• Jehovah Jireh (Provider)
• Jehovah Shalom (Peace)
• El Shaddai (More than enough)
• Alpha and Omega (over every beginning and end)
What God’s people can do
• Declare God’s names in prayer
• Worship intentionally
• Replace fear with truth: “God is God, and He is with me.”
4. GOD IS IN CONTROL EVEN WHEN EVERYTHING SHAKES
Psalm 46 describes chaos—roaring waters, shaking mountains, nations in uproar.
Yet God still says, “Be still.”
Truth: Stillness is not the absence of chaos—it is the presence of confidence in God.
What God’s people can do
• Speak peace over your situation—“Peace, be still”
• Respond from the Spirit, not from emotion
• Choose trust over panic—“God is bigger than this”
5. STILLNESS POSITIONS US TO HEAR GOD
Scripture examples:
• Elijah heard the still small voice (1 Kings 19:12)
• Samuel heard God in silence (1 Samuel 3)
• Jesus withdrew to quiet places (Mark 1:35)
What God’s people can do
• Unplug during prayer
• Listen more, speak less
• Create a sacred space for meeting with God
6. STILLNESS BUILDS SUPERNATURAL STRENGTH
Isaiah 30:15 — “In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”
Strength comes not only from activity but from abiding.
Isaiah 40:31 — Those who wait on the Lord renew their strength.
What God’s people can do
• Rest without guilt
• Wait on the Lord expectantly
• Practise a Sabbath rhythm
7. STILLNESS LEADS TO VICTORY
Exodus 14:13 — “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.”
Victory is sometimes found not in fighting harder but in standing still and letting God fight for you.
What God’s people can do
• Stand firm in faith
• Resist fear
• Watch for God’s deliverance
CLOSING DECLARATION
God is inviting His people:
• Out of: fear, striving, anxiety, and self-control
• Into: trust, confidence, intimacy, and revelation
Be still… and know… that He is God.
• When we are still, God becomes clearer
• When we surrender, He begins to work
• When we trust, He is exalted in our lives
